If you’re a fan of FemDom JOI and hypnosis clips, you’re probably aware of “gooning”. It’s a rebranding of tantric masturbation and really it isn’t anything new. Edging as a fetish has been around forever. So, what makes Goontard novel and different? It’s the level of degradation involved. And I don’t mean the degradation of the viewer.
Gooning is a niche created in indie porn by businessmen to keep customers on orgasmic edge and buying clips. It isn’t uncommon for a goon video to include lots of jerk off motions, eye rolling, languid tongues, and drooling. That’s right. Drooling. The goal for these goontard women is to look as mentally deficient as possible (where “tard” comes in), in an effort to mock and humiliate masturbating men. But when one sees these images, one has to wonder who is really being humiliated?
The goon aesthetic is a way to see otherwise sexy and powerful women in embarrassing situations. No Domme ever puts on her lipstick with the distinct goal of drooling it all down her chin as a form of mockery. That’s just not powerful, it’s not sexy, and it’s not what a true dominant woman would ever consider doing. The “goontard” look has been compared to ahegao face, which is linked to violent sexual assault against females. So, how did this become so popular in the world of online FemDom? That takes a bit more explaining.
Consensual sex trafficking is going on all the time. And just because it’s legal, doesn’t mean it isn’t risky, dangerous and manipulative. Let’s imagine a scenario:
A girl wants out of her small town. She’s sexually open and finds herself at a fetish party. She meets another woman at the party, a woman who is scene-famous and earns a nice income for her indie porn. This inspires the small town girl, so when she’s invited by this woman to travel across the country and meet other successful industry insiders, she of course accepts it.
While the small town girl is in a different state with a bunch of strangers, she’s taken around to a dungeon to meet another scene-famous woman to show her the ropes of clip-making. Sitting beside the dungeon mistress on a bed with a camera pointed at them, the small town girl is told what it is to be a Domme. She is instructed on what to say, how to move, and what the customer expects. The dungeon mistress even tells the small town girl that she will have to do and say things in clips she isn’t comfortable with as a means to make money.
But the advice doesn’t end there. Now the small town girl is whisked away to meet a real mover-and-shaker. He runs his own website where he sells videos he produces of women he hires. He knows exactly what his customers want to see, so when this new girl is brought to him, he grooms her to cater to his audience. The small town girl is presented with a list of clip ideas and she sits beside the online porn producer to talk about delivery and attitude.
Now, what if this man is telling her to drool on herself? Telling her to roll her eyes into the back of her head as if she’s a victim of a violent assault? What if he tells her to grunt and moan out like an ogre and slap an L on her own forehead? Might she do this because she’s told this is what it takes to make her rich and famous? After all, she wants out of her small town and was brought to this place by a scene-famous woman who has already introduced her to other industry insiders.
This story isn’t isolated. You don’t have to be whisked across the country from a sex party to get swept up in the world of faux FemDom. You simply have to see enough goontard women ranking on clip sites to think that’s the way to get fans. So, you try to do what they do. Even if it isn’t what you’re into.
Maybe you’re familiar with Humiliation POV. It’s a niche website run by a man who wants you to know him as “Rob”. Rob recruits young women to film themselves for his porn compilations. Ambitious ladies inquire about the work and he provides them with ideas and themes that will conform to his website. For a while now, the common theme on Rob’s website is goontarding, so he’s been teaching lots of new women how to humiliate themselves for his monetary benefit.
And what do the women get out of the deal? They’re paid a price of their choosing. Which might sound cool at first but when you think about it, it’s actually pretty messed up. When making a deal with these sometimes desperate, young women, Rob relies on the unfortunate fact that females undervalue themselves and their work. He’s expecting a naive girl in need of money to decide her future worth in that current moment of vulnerability.
Now, that’s a nasty old carny trick – especially because Rob knows he’s going to be using this embarrassing footage for decades to come. The sad truth is, even when the young woman matures and her style evolves, Rob will always have the legal right to show fresh Humiliation POV content made from her old drooling footage.
What started off as some possible free exposure to new customers turns into regret. Those new customers didn’t show up because there are none. If you found out about HPOV on IWC or through Domme Addiction, so did the customers. It’s a small pool of guys who are into this stuff and their main sources are listed above. Re-exposing yourself to them won’t win them over. Making goontard footage to last an eternity won’t change that.
So, we have a businessman coercing young women and instructing them on how to play domme. We also have a clip site that secretly dictates to a “fan blog” which women are worthy of promotion. And we end up with goontard as the next best thing since sliced bread. Which might be close to the truth because sliced factory bread is made of chemicals and plant fragments that have no nutritional value. Like factory food, goontard has no substance and exists because of greed.
Does this make sense for FemDom? A bunch of money-grubbing men telling women that to be a domme is to drool on themselves and roll their eyes into the back of their head while moving spastically? No, it doesn’t. It’s embarrassing and it’s sick that they prey on naive, ambitious women. They can anoint through their rigged system all the goontards they want, but it’s still going to be a niche bitch. Just like HPOV and IWC.
In fact, the whole JOI category is pretty passé. It was a means to an end – a way to categorize pretty ladies talking about penises. But do men really need to be instructed on how to handle their penises? It isn’t like they haven’t been masturbating on their own for years before they discover a clip site. I think that men can handle more nuance and substance in their porn. And I think that women deserve to be more than a drooling goontard.
Now, who wants to learn about esoteric erotica? It’s the OLA way.
I don’t think I’ve read a more articulate examination of gooning. I have seen gooning videos before, but they never really interested me. After reading your blog, I think I understand why. All porn is fantasy. Once the illusion of the fantasy is broken, the enjoyment of it is likewise shattered. I know models from porn in the real world have bad hair days, have days where they feel bloated, have morning breath, etc. But I enjoy the escape from the real world into a world of beauty. After all, isn’t that the purpose of any art? For me, and I suspect a lot of men like me, the fantasy of femdom is that of worshiping a goddess that I can never really be with. Being below her, enamored with her beauty to the point where I will do anything she commands. To be toyed with, teased. Gooning, while it appears on the surface to facilitate that, really doesn’t, for the reasons you already noted. There is no enjoyment seeing a woman I idolize reduced to a simp.
